Larissa describes the freedom of painting without a reference and allowing the work to develop its own meaning:

“This is the joy of having no reference and simply allowing the viewer to see, draw on his or her own meaning. My paintings have many versions of themselves under the layers and at some point they are finished.”

Larissa also draws on Allan Watson’s anti-methodological approach, which echoes Petra Lange-Berndt’s statement: “Materials become wilful actors and agents within artistic processes, entangling their audience in a web of connections”. She explores how materials can obstruct, disrupt or interfere with social norms, emerging as “impure formations and messy, unstable substances” (Lange-Berndt, 2015).
