Larissa Hollis
Larissa Hollis is a South African artist who moved to London in 2023. She is an oil painter who chooses to paint whatever exists within her space.
After graduating with a BFA in Painting from Rhodes University, South Africa, in 1999, Larissa spent the next 20 years working in the film industry as a visual effects artist, VFX director and film director. During this time, she lived and worked in South Africa, the UK and the USA.
She returned to painting in 2020, completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Painting at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. In 2022, she began an MA at Falmouth University, later converting it to a Postgraduate Diploma following her relocation to the UK.
Larissa paints in oils and uses her work to make sense of Apartheid, power, gender, war and nature. Colour value is central to her practice. She is fascinated by the exponential possibilities and conundrums of colour, which shape her process and approach to painting.
