Alla Samarina
Alla Samarina is a British artist whose creative journey began in the underground art scene of Saint Petersburg. In her late teens, she was involved with the New Academy Art Movement and Pop Mechanika, and was a member of the pop group Kolibri.
Following the fall of the Soviet Union, Alla moved to London, where she embraced a wide range of artistic experiences. During the 1990s, she worked as a fashion model and muse to milliner Philip Treacy, collaborating with stylist Isabella Blow and contributing to Vogue, Tatler, and The Sunday Times Magazine.
Alla’s paintings and drawings merge the figurative with the abstract, exploring beauty, sensuality and what it means to be human. Her gestural, physical approach invites the viewer to engage and complete the narrative. Each piece fuses classical drawing techniques with the vibrant energy of graffiti, creating a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression.
“My art is never too described. I always leave a bit of space for the person to finish the image. Sometimes I just give a suggestion of movement, just a line of a torso or hand. It’s like us, we’re not a finished story. We’re always evolving and changing. It’s always fascinating. ”
